The eagerly awaited second novel by Jane Harris, author of the hugely acclaimed The Observations.
Sitting in her Bloomsbury home, with her two birds for company, elderly Harriet Baxter sets out to relate the story of her acquaintance with Ned Gillespie, a talented artist who never achieved the fame he deserved. Back in 1888, after a chance encounter, young Harriet befriends the Gillespie family and soon becomes a fixture in all of their lives. But when tragedy strikes - leading to a notorious criminal trial - the certainties of this world all too rapidly disorientate into mystery and deception.
Anna Bentinck was trained at Arts Educational Schools and has worked extensively on radio, television, film and theatre, including leading roles in Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew for the BBC English Rep. Her television experience includes playing Mary Dickens in the biography of Charles Dickens' life. Anna Bentinck has also narrated many high profile audiobooks, including Life Begins by Amanda Brookfield and One Day by David Nicholls.
Daisy Goodwin, The Sunday Times
“In Gillespie and I, Harris has pulled off the only too rare double whammy - a Booker-worthy novel that I want to read again.”
Literary Review
“Harris writes with a gorgeous delicacy and wit.”

Whole Story Audiobooks has developed a unique system to guide you on the level of explicit content in our audiobooks. The system is applied against our titles to consistently rate levels of explicit language, sex and violence.
We consider not only frequency of content type but also the context: for example, strong language in a humorous setting is different from aggressive use of strong language.
Whilst there will always be subjectivity and different individuals views on this matter, we hope that you will find our content guide useful if these criteria form part of your selection process when choosing your next audiobook.
This recording is unabridged. Typically abridged audiobooks are not more than 60% of the author's work and as low as 30% with characters and plotlines removed.
