A moving account of a child who survived the IRA bomb that killed Lord Mountbatten. Winner of the Christopher Ewart-Biggs Literary Award, recognising work that promotes peace and reconciliation in Ireland.
August bank holiday weekend, 1979. 14-year-old Timothy Knatchbull was on a boat trip with his family and friends. The IRA bomb that exploded in their boat killed Knatchbull's grandfather, Lord Mountbatten, and other members of the group. This book provides a compelling insight into a dark period of Irish history. But more importantly it reminds us that although tragedy can strike at any moment, the human spirit can recover.
The Grandson of Lord Mountbatten, Timothy Knatchbull's early career included working on David Puttnam's feature film Memphis Belle and key roles in some of the UK's most successful television programmes, such as Breakfast News, That's Life and Crimewatch UK. In 1997 he spent a year at Harvard's Kennedy and Business Schools, before joining Discovery Channel. He now runs a London media business and is married with five children.

Whole Story Audiobooks has developed a unique system to guide you on the level of explicit content in our audiobooks. The system is applied against our titles to consistently rate levels of explicit language, sex and violence.
We consider not only frequency of content type but also the context: for example, strong language in a humorous setting is different from aggressive use of strong language.
Whilst there will always be subjectivity and different individuals views on this matter, we hope that you will find our content guide useful if these criteria form part of your selection process when choosing your next audiobook.
This recording is unabridged. Typically abridged audiobooks are not more than 60% of the author's work and as low as 30% with characters and plotlines removed.
